It starts at your kitchen table

You are building something. Maybe it is a side project, maybe it is the early version of a company. You are one person with a laptop and too many tabs open. You need an AI assistant, but you do not need a monthly bill for one.

This is where most Alpha Agent users begin: Desktop.

Desktop is free. Not free-trial free. Not free-with-a-credit-card free. Free forever. You download it, enter your own API key, and you have a fully functional AI assistant running locally. All 20+ channels. Any AI provider. Custom skills and persistent memory. The same platform that powers every Alpha Agent tier, just running on your hardware instead of ours.

The getting started guide walks through the process. It takes about two minutes.

The moment you need more

Desktop works until it does not. For most people, the tipping point is one of three things: you want your assistant available when your laptop is closed, you want automatic encrypted backups, or you want scheduled tasks that run on a cadence whether you are awake or not.

That is the Individual plan. At $29/month, you get a cloud-hosted instance running 24/7 on managed infrastructure. Your workspace gets a subdomain (yourname.alphaagent.app), your data is encrypted at rest and in transit, and backups happen automatically. Everything you built in Desktop --- memories, skills, channel connections --- carries over. There is no migration step. You are on the same platform, just with infrastructure that does not depend on your laptop staying open.

For a solo developer or freelancer, this is the sweet spot. Your assistant monitors Slack channels while you sleep, runs scheduled research tasks, and responds to messages on any channel without you being at your desk.

Then you hire someone

The first time you need to give a colleague access to the same AI assistant, you have outgrown Individual. This is normal and it is why the Team plan exists.

At $49 per user per month, Team gives you everything in Individual plus the controls that matter when more than one person is involved. Shared integrations mean your team connects to Slack, Jira, GitHub, or any other service once and everyone benefits. No more asking five people to each configure their own keys and connections.

But the feature that matters most at this stage is budget caps. When it is just you, you know exactly how much AI spend you are generating. When it is a team of five, then ten, then twenty, you need guardrails. Team lets you set per-user budget caps and team-wide ceilings with alerts at 50%, 80%, and 100% of your thresholds. Nobody gets a surprise invoice. We wrote a full guide on setting up budget alerts if you want the details.

The other thing that changes with Team is visibility. You can see which users are consuming what, which channels generate the most activity, and where your AI spend is actually going. This is the data that turns an AI assistant from an experiment into a line item you can defend in a budget review.

Scaling past the tipping point

Somewhere between 20 and 50 users, the conversation changes. It stops being about whether AI assistants are useful and starts being about compliance, security posture, and infrastructure guarantees.

Enterprise is built for this stage. Dedicated infrastructure means your instance runs on isolated compute, not shared tenancy. SSO lets your team authenticate through your existing identity provider. You get an SLA with defined uptime guarantees and a direct line to our team for onboarding and support.

The important thing about Enterprise is what it is not: a different product. It is the same Alpha Agent platform, the same dashboard, the same skills and memory system. The difference is the infrastructure underneath and the organizational controls on top. A developer who learned Alpha Agent on Desktop will feel at home in an Enterprise deployment.

The same platform at every tier

This is the design decision that matters most. Alpha Agent is one platform. Desktop, Individual, Team, and Enterprise are not four different products stapled together under one brand. They are the same codebase, the same runtime, the same security model.

Your data is encrypted at rest with KMS regardless of whether you are on a free Desktop install or a dedicated Enterprise cluster. The container isolation model is the same. What changes between tiers is where the infrastructure runs and who manages it, not what the software does.

This also means there is no lock-in. If you start on Individual and decide you want to run locally again, you go back to Desktop. If you scale from Team to Enterprise, your workspace carries forward. Your memories, skills, channel configs, and conversation history belong to you at every tier.

Where to start

If you do not have Alpha Agent yet, start with Desktop. It is free, it takes two minutes, and it gives you the full platform on your own machine. You will know when you need more.

If your team is growing, check the pricing page to see what unlocks at each tier. Past 50 users and need dedicated infrastructure? Reach out about Enterprise --- we will scope it together.

The path from solo developer to 50-person team should not require ripping out your tools and starting over. With Alpha Agent, it does not.
